The Story

After six weeks of working at 48.3 Scaffold Design, Luke Hunma and Michael Eager look back and review their experiences so far:

Luke Hunma

My first month with 48.3 has been very enjoyable and I am happy with the way I have fitted in. It has been interesting and a real eye opener.

Over the past month we have been familiarising ourselves with all the necessary British Standards and Technical Guidance documents involved in scaffold design, we have also completed some design drawings.

The training program enables us to demonstrate new things we have learnt by implementing it, and if ever in doubt, I feel no hesitation in seeking advice from my colleagues.

Understanding the responsibilities of designers and other key parties involved in a construction project outlined by the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and BS 5975:2008 + A1:2011 have been highlighted due to their importance.

All of my colleagues are very approachable and helpful.

I am extremely lucky to have walked into a company who have created a well-structured, bespoke graduate training program for scaffold design, something that is unheard of in the industry.

I have been very impressed with the way in which 48.3 Scaffold Design perform their work, everything is of the highest standard, I believe this company is making a mark on this industry and in my opinion, leading the way.

Michael Eager

Before I started I wasn’t sure what to expect, and wasn’t sure what would be expected of me, wondering if I would be expected to start designing scaffolds straight away and try and learn as I worked?

Instead I began a structured course which has been based around the importance of working to British Standards, Technical Guidance for scaffolding and CDM Regulations, including BS EN 12811, BS 5975 and TG 20:08. Strong emphasis has been placed on the importance of following correct procedure to ensure the client always gets the product they require, and understanding our own responsibilities as a designer.

There is a strong team mentality where anyone and everyone is ready to offer a helping hand if it’s needed, and I am yet to ask a scaffold related question that someone has not been able to answer.
